Public Comment on Non-Agenda Items

This is a procedural or ceremonial item with no real decision for the public to weigh in on.

Official wording

Public Comment on Non-Agenda Items Public comments on items that are not on the agenda can be addressed at this time. The Board President will recognize any member of the audience wishing to speak to an item not on the agenda on a matter directly related to school business. The President may allot time to those wishing to speak, but no action will be taken on matters presented. If appropriate, the President or any Member of the Board may direct that a matter be referred to the Superintendent's Office for placement on a future agenda. Those who wish to address the Board during public comment may do so by completing a speaker card in person before the beginning of each agenda item. Individual speakers shall be allowed (2) two minutes (unless otherwise announced by the Board President) to address the Board. You must submit this card prior to the discussion of the agenda item you wish to speak to; once an item has begun, cards will not be accepted for that item. For the record, you may state your name at the beginning of your statement. The Board shall limit the total time for public input on each agenda item to 30 minutes. With Board consent, the President may increase or decrease the time allowed for public presentation, depending on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard. The President may take a poll of speakers for or against a particular issue and may ask that additional persons speak only if they have something new to add.
